Our Spotlight on a Bray Wealth team member series gives you more insight into the people behind your plan and the crucial work they do.

This month, meet financial planner Geoff Corden and learn more about how he supports his clients.

1. What is your role at Bray Wealth?

I’m one of the financial planners here at Bray, and I’m passionate about helping people live life to the fullest. My goal is to guide clients through life’s different stages and help them answer the complex financial questions that come up along the way.

I place great value on building and nurturing long-term relationships with individuals and families. By working closely with clients, I aim to deliver better financial outcomes and bring clarity and peace of mind about their financial futures, so they can lead their dream lifestyle.

2. What first attracted you to your career and what steps did you take to reach your current position?

I was drawn to financial planning as I’ve always wanted to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. I feel honoured and privileged to be able to support people at different stages of their journey and help them find clarity about the future.

I started my career working in corporate banking in 2013, straight out of university. It wasn’t until I was made redundant in 2020 that I discovered my true passion for holistic financial planning.

During my redundancy, I completed all my financial advice exams and decided to pursue a new career. Since then, I haven’t looked back and I’m thoroughly enjoying helping people achieve their goals.

3. What qualifications and professional training do you have that help you support clients?

During my banking career, I successfully passed all three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification, which gave me a strong grounding in investment principles. To transition away from corporate banking into financial planning, I chose to build on my knowledge by undertaking the Investment Advice Diploma with the CISI.

In the last year I completed the CISI’s Level 6 Certificate in Advanced Financial Planning, and I hope to complete a final case study to become a certified financial planner in the future.

I believe that to deliver the best advice and guidance, it’s essential to keep learning and developing. That’s why I am always looking for ways to grow both personally and professionally, so I can stay ahead of the times and give clients the highest quality support.

4. What is the most rewarding part of your role at Bray Wealth?

Seeing the positive impact you can have on people’s lives, both financially and emotionally, is the most rewarding outcome of the job. I find it fascinating to listen to each person’s individual life story and I enjoy having the opportunity to speak to so many people from different backgrounds. I’m often able to shift what seems to be the weight of the world from people and give them clarity and peace of mind about their financial futures.

Whether it’s helping someone retire, travel the world, or leave a legacy for their loved ones, it feels very rewarding being able to make such a difference to people’s lives.

5. What are your biggest professional goals for the next year?

My main aim in the next year is to continue building long-standing relationships with individuals and families who I want to work with in the local area.

I am also passionate about financial education in schools and believe there should be more in the curriculum to better equip children for the future. I will be looking for more ways I can give back by helping at local schools.

6. What are you most excited about outside of work over the next year?

I’m looking forward to going away with my 8-month-old son Finley in the next few weeks and continuing to watch him develop next year. Hopefully, the sleep can only improve from here!

Outside of family and work life, I look forward to getting back out on the football field and putting in a title charge with my Saturday league team, Surrey Athletic.
