5 of the best festive days out in Surrey this year

As Christmas approaches, you may be preparing to enjoy your favourite festive traditions with your loved ones. In the lead-up to the big day, there are many excellent events happening near Chobham.

These are five of the best festive days out in Surrey in 2025.

1. Christmas light switch-on and carol service at Foxhills Golf Club

Foxhills Golf Club, just a 10-minute drive from Chobham, has several exciting events happening throughout the festive season.

The Christmas light switch-on and carol service on Saturday 29 November is a mainstay of their festive programme. Watch as the impressive light display on the beautiful manor house is switched on for the first time, marking the beginning of the Christmas season.

On the day, there will also be a carol service, reindeer, and plenty of pop-up stalls for food and mulled wine.

This is a complimentary event that you and your family won’t want to miss. If you enjoy the experience and want to return to Foxhills for more Christmas fun, you might consider their festive afternoon tea at the manor. There is also a Peter Pan pantomime on 13 December.

The Foxhills website has full details about their festive events and how to buy tickets.

2. Glow winter illuminations at RHS garden Wisely

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has managed the gardens at Wisley since 1903. It’s now one of the UK’s most visited gardens.

The space will come alive during the Christmas period as the RHS once again hosts the Glow winter illuminations event.

The gardens will be adorned with spectacular lights and projections, creating trails through the foliage. You can enjoy exploring the various paths and hidden areas of this magical winter wonderland with your family.

Afterwards, you can enjoy food and drink stalls, while the RHS is also introducing marshmallow pits where you can toast marshmallows under the stars.

This is a popular event, so you may want to book tickets in advance. The illuminations will be in place from 21 November 2025 to 4 January 2026.

3. Alice’s Christmas in Wonderland at Polesden Lacey

Alice’s Christmas in Wonderland event at Polesden Lacey is the perfect day out if you have young children.

The impressive Edwardian house will be transformed with Christmas decorations inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Follow the White Rabbit on a tour through the house, enjoying the decorations and immersing yourself in scenes from the classic children’s story.

In the grounds of the estate, you’ll find an outdoor children’s trail complete with decorations, activities, and festive treats.

There will also be stalls selling artisan gifts, so you can make a start on your Christmas shopping too.

The wonderland will be open from 22 November 2025 to January 2026.

4. Beauty and the Beast at the Yvonne Arnaud theatre

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a pantomime. This year, at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, see Beauty and the Beast from 29 November 2025 to 4 January 2026.

You can also book a pre-show dinner at the Riverbank Kitchen and enjoy a two- or three-course Christmas meal.
